objet  / awb-zhe/ : an object of artistic worth or curiosity, especially a small object

In objet, seemingly insignificant objects are magnified both physically and thematically to monumental proportions. At first glance the large-scale photographs appear to capture life size scenes. Upon closer examination, there is a playful reality of miniature objects which meditate upon the artist's life. These self portraits explore the juxtaposition of joyful apex and murky underbelly of creation. Photographs are printed with objects at full-scale size; a pencil the size of a pencil.

Miniature objects are built in c-mini scale, or 20% life size, and photographed against a white background. Arranged outside of a specific time and space, the contents take on an amplified universal resonance. The process of building the miniatures is a meditation on the significance of an object's role and context within my life. Each photograph plays with painterly compositions through bold color palettes, engaging textures and abstraction through depth of field.
